First of all I went to go and see the Book of Mormon at the Sunderland Empire, which was an interesting show to see. It is definitely not something I would have picked to see on my own. My brother went to see it a couple of years ago down in the west end, and has been raving about it since. so when it was announced that it would be going on a UK Tour we decided to book tickets so go and see it. I'll break the show down into sections:
Story and Script
The story of the Book of Mormon was very simple: two Mormon's get sent to Uganda to convert people to their religion. I would say that the idea worked as a musical; sometimes the more simplistic ideas work more than the musicals with overly complicated plots. However, I did not really like the script for this show. I feel like this is because I have a very British sense of humor, as a lot of the jokes felt very forced and some of them even went over my head at times. I would probably compare my issue with this to my issues with The Play that Goes Wrong. They have jokes in Act One that are funny at the time, but then they keep repeating the same joke over and over again and it just becomes not funny by the end of Act Two.Songs
The songs in this show are fantastic. I have many favourites, including Hello and You and Me (but mostly me). I even nearly shed a tear at the end of Act One just because the music sounded so beautiful (but was then taken out of the moment by a really bad joke). Act Two definitely feels weaker sog wise though, with the only song really standing out to me being We are Africa. It is probably an album I will have on repeat on Spotify though.Sets
I absolutely loved the sets in this show! The scene changes were so seamless between songs and my favourite moment in the show is when Elder Price is going to monologue in You and Me (but mostly Me) and the curtains ust shut out Elder Cunningham. It has some of the best sets I have seen in a show and to be honest the sets were probably my favourite part of it!I do not want to ramble on about it too much, but do not be put off by my opinion of the script. I know some people that absolutely adore this musical and that is brilliant! It is just a musical that isn't for me. Although I did not let that top me from having a good time. The cast were fantastic and the crew worked extremely hard to put on this show! (I didn't really want to go into too much detail about the cast since they seem to change wherever you see the show, but the UK Tour cast are amazing and out should definitely try to catch it if the tour comes to your area!
Okay, so back to the moving house thing...
On Sunday, I moved into my new house, which I am sharing with four of my friends, and I love it!It was a 2 hour drive from my family's house to my house, which was not very fun with a car filled with boxes and a guitar on my knee, but everything got here in one piece.
I do not have any before/after photos, but I did mess around rearranging the furniture before decorating my room. My dressing table was where the bed is now under the window, but where the bed was I was unable to access the drawers in my room. I really needed that storage space, especially with the amount of clothes that I have! So, the mattress was taken out of my room and put on the landing, and I flipped the bed frame over so it was facing the right way and so that I could have the bed across where the window is. I moved the desk over to where the shelving is, since it made more sense for it to be there if I was putting my makeup and jewelry over there. It is a much better this way than in the arrangement I found it in, and I am already dreading the day I have to move out of here!
Already, living in this house is much better than living in Student Halls, and if you are interested in seeing a Student House VS Student Halls post let me know and I will work on it for the future!
Other than that, not much exciting has really happened in my life this week. On Tuesday I went for a haircut, but it wasn't really for anything drastically different, it was just since my hair was getting too long for me so it needed a chop. I also booked my travel down to Newcastle on Saturday to see Les Miserables on tour and I booked my transport to London for my Disney Interview, so we shall see what these next couple of weeks bring!
