A Time I made a Good Choice - September Posts

I have made many choices over my lifetime - some have been good, some could have been better. So it is really difficult to pick out one particular choice that was good. However, I do think there is one choice that I made that has had a really posetive impact on me, no matter how bad the situation seemed at the time.

Instead of following my classmates go to university in September 2017, I decided that I would take a gap year so that I would be able to save up an emergency fund so that I would be financially secure at University and would not have to rely on my parents to help me out of sticky situations that I may have encountered.

This year could have been very difficult, but luckily, due to a family friend, I was fast tracked into a career after I finished my time at college, and I hated every moment I worked there. It was one of the worst years of me life; I almost contacted my university in the October asking if it would be possible for me to go to university early (Keep in mind I started this job in June, so at this point I had been working there for a good four months already, and had been exposed to how corrupt the managers in this office were.

Despite this being a really difficult year, the savings have really helped me out over the past year. I have paid for the deposit on my house with this money and I have paid for my transport to my Disney Interview as well as many other things. I'm sure it will come in handy over the years too, in case I have to suddenly move somewhere for a job, or if I need an emergency trip home.

If there is anything I can advise college students applying to UCAS, it would be to consider taking a gap year to save up before they go to university, especially if they are not going to get much student loan! I feel so much better having that money there in case something happens and I need it, plus going through that year waiting to go to university really made me appreciate going to university when I finally got there. I felt like I really deserved to be there, and it made me value going to university more than if I would have gone there straight after going to college. It is definitely something you should consider! I did try to save up whilst still at college, but since I only had a weekend job, I did not manage to save up much, so a gap year is something you should consider!
