The Best Parts of Fall - September Posts

So you are probably thinking that something is wrong, since I am posting this on a Sunday. And I'm here to confirm - no I have not been hacked. I am just trying out something new, I want to try and post every day of September. I have a couple of posts pre-planned throughout September, so those posts will still be posted (I believe it is the first two Mondays of Sebtember) as bonus uploads, but I will be doing my best to post every day this month, following the prompt written by Elizabeth McNair. Thank you for the inspiration Elizabeth!

Which brings me to the first post: the best parts of Fall (which I refer to as Autumn, but it is the way that it is written in the prompt so I am repeating it as it is written).

So, in my opinion, what are the best parts of Autumn. And there are many things that spring to mind. To keep the list from getting out of control, I have decided to just list my personal 5 favourite things about autumn, since I am going to be doing a lot of writing already this month, and I do not want to get halfway through to read burn out point. So without futher ado, here are 5 things that I believe are the best parts of Fall/Autumn:

1) Halloween

Halloween. My favourite holiday. Of course, I could be very biased since it is the day after my birthday and there was something amazing about getting cards and presents one day and then getting free sweets from all of my neighbours the next day. But there is so much more to Halloween than Trick or Treating (which I am way to old to do now anyway, which I am sad about, I wanted to trick or treat until I was at least 97 years old.)

A relatively new element to Halloween that I have become acquainted to over the past couple of years is Halloween Baking, I have no idea if this is something that a lot of people take part in or if it is just me, but I do love coming up with spooky snacks for the spookiest holiday of the year. I have made pumpkin spiced cookies, and chocolate cakes with chocolate witches on top and home made bread made in the shape of a spider. Baking is just something that I love in general and I love being able to put a spooky twist on baked goods that I love throughout the year!

Further more, I have grown to love Halloween Parties over the years. Now these are not the typical sort of parties that you are probably thinking of, by Halloween Parties I mean dressing up to see who could come up with the most ridiculous costumes and sitting around the TV to play video games. We have had cereal killers and jam tarts and many other silly handmade costumes, and that really adds to the fun of the holiday.

It is not as expensive as Christmas and not as relative as Easter, it brings people together to have a good time, and that is why Halloween is my favourite holiday!

2) Leaves

There is nothing better than walking through the park in Autumn and looking to the trees to see that all the leaves have changed colour, and to see leaves all laying on the ground. I love it in the last couple of weeks of September, when there are still leaves in the trees but there is a significant amount of leaves on the floor that you can walk through. There is no better noise than the crunch of leaves beneath your feet!

Something I have always wanted to do that I have actually never done is jump into a leaf pile. It always looks so fun to do in the movies and I have always wondered if it would be like jumping into a giant pillow or if it would just be like falling over. Regardless, leaves are very pretty and are definitely a contribution to making Autumn my favourite season!

3) Colours

This related back to the leaves; I absolutely love the colour pallet of Autumn. The reds, oranges and yellows are all beautiful, and there are some lovely fashion choices that can be made during Fall with these colours. Winter seems to be very gray and depressing, and Spring and Summer sort of share the same colour pallet at this point, but Autumn has such a bright and different colour pallet that is so pretty!

4) Pumpkin Spice Latte

I remember part of the excitement of September starting was that the Pumpkin Spice Latte would be making it's return to Starbucks. Autumn has not officially begun until you have a PSL!

Sadly, the Starbucks in my hometown and in the town where I go to uni has closed down, so it looks like for the first time in about 8 years I will be deprived of a PSL. But if you are lucky enough to live near a Starbucks, then go out there and buy one to try it for me! It is a drink with a mix of spices, I am not entirely sure of the exact spices used in the recipe, but there is definitely some cinnamon thrown in there!

5) Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night is a really weird holiday that we have in the UK. Basically, it is a night to celebrate the death of a man named Guy Falkes, who tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in the 1500's (I think it was the 1500's, don't quote me though!) It is quite gruesome to think about, but Guy Falkes was burned to death for this crime and that is why we have Bonfire Night.

Despite it being rather morbid, I really love Bonfire Night. I love going out to watch fireworks displays and eating way to many hot dogs! It is also when the weather starts getting colder, so you can bring out the hats and scarfs and the knitted jumpers to prepare for the winter months coming!

There you have it, my 5 favourite things about Autumn. This is my favourite season in the year, so there are many other things that I love about Autumn, so if the chance arises I may make a part two to this post in the future.

Thank you for reading and stay tuned for the future posts in this series!
