All About Me

Hello, my name is Natalie and welcome to my blog. I have had this blog since I was 17 years old (I am now just over a month away from turning 21) and I have just realised that you are able to create pages on your blog, so that is why it has taken me so ling to create an about me page! Without further ado, here is a little bit about me, what I do and why I created this blog.

What are your passions and interests?

I am extremely interested in musical theatre. I have been a huge fan of musicals ever since the age of 8. Before that age, I used to find singing in movies extremely boring. I'm actually quite embarrassed to admit this, but I used to fast forward Disney Movies to skip over the songs. One of the first vivid childhood memories I have is of me watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in my room, and any time somebody even looked like they were going to sing I fast forwarded the video tape (yes, that is how long ago this was, I was watching Snow White on a VIDEO TAPE!) which significantly shortened the movie - and already it was not very long. But all this changed when my mum and dad brought home a DVD for us to watch one day, that DVD was of Joel Schumacher's version of The Phantom of the Opera. As terrible as I think this movie is now, I can't help but think fondly of the happiness it brought me. After all, if it was not for this movie, I may not be where I am today.

What is your dream job?

I would love to become successful enough to become a professional Actress, after only being involved in Armature productions of shows. Yes, before you all tell me, I am very aware of how hard this industry is to get into, but these days people are lucky to get any job they have. What is the point of me putting in all the time and effort into training to be a doctor if 1) It's not something I am truly passionate about and 2) If I am not even guaranteed a job at the end of it! I would much rather put that time and effort into training to do something I love and at-least attempting to break into the industry, that way, if I am unsuccessful, I can say "okay, at least I tried", whereas if I dived into a career decision for something I don't want to do but has good pay, it would always linger at the back of my mind that I did not even try.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

As a child I always wanted to be a Disney Princess and work in the Disney Parks. Part of that dream was achieved. Ever since the age of 17, I have been working with a company in my hometown as an unofficial Disney character (pretty much, dressing up as familiar faces with different names like "Ice Queen" and "Snow Princess") which I really enjoy. Whenever I can be home from university I have returned to this job.

And then there is the working in a Disney Park, which is something I am currently working on. As of writing this, I have an interview to work in Walt Disney World in Summer 2020. So, hopefully, if all goes well, I should be able to achieve the rest of this childhood dream!

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

I am a very ambitious person, so I set my self a goal and I do everything I possibly can to try and achieve it. That being said, I am also extremely stubborn, so I don't easily see when something isn't working, and I don't really like changing my plan to get to that goal.

My Future Goals

I have spoken a bit about my personal goals in the questions above, but now I want to speak a bit more about the goals for this blog. I would like to try to commit to having a post at least once a week on here, which is something that I have almost achieved this year. Things did start to get a little bit crazy when I was in rehearsals for two different shows and then I also had my university exams to prepare for, so I think for next year I will need to make sure that I have posts written in advance so that things don't get too stressful at that time and also so that my blog is not neglected.

Also over the summer, I been posting some videos to my blog as well as written posts, which I have really enjoyed doing. I have enjoyed getting to explore my creative side a little bit more. I would love to try and film more videos and upload them more frequently, however I also don't want my housemates to think that I am crazy by talking to myself all the time or secretly thinking that I am a cam girl on the side so I cannot promise that videos will be posted all the time. I believe that in the future, I will post written blog posts on a Monday and then any videos I have will be posted on a Friday. I have written blog posts up until the end of October, so this "Schedule" will be followed from the start of November, and if there needs to be any changes I will inform you as soon as possible.

What do you do?

Currently I am a Musical Theatre student entering my second year at University. If you are unsure what that is, I sing, dance and act on stage in front of an audience, which is something that I have always wanted to do.

However, I have always read advice posts saying that you need something in your life to separate yourself from Musical Theatre, your life cannot 100% revolve around it. So that is one of the reasons why I have started this blog. Yes, I love Musical Theatre so much, but this blog is a partial escape from that. I have a huge passion for writing, but have no idea what I should write about, so anything that really comes to mind or anything that brings me inspiration, I write about it and post it on here. Now I will admit, there has been many times where I have worked really hard on a post, but then thought it not adequate enough to post on my blog. There has even been times where I have written and published a post, but thought it not good enough for the blog and so have removed it from the blog. I work extremely hard on this blog, and I would not post something unless I was confident that I have put an adequate amount of work into it to justify publishing it for people anywhere in the world to read.

How do you do it?

So, here comes the next logical question, how do you do it. I did start off the beginning of the year by writing each post the week before I posted it. Whilst it ensured the information I posted at the time was the most up to date information/opinion I had at the time, it was incredibly stressful and, as mentioned before, I eventually stopped posting when I was overwhelmed with work, exams and writing.

I am not trying to invalidate taking a break from your work at all here, it is very important to take a break if you feel like something is too much for you, or if you are on the brink of burnout. I just believe that at the beginning of this year, I was rather unorganised with the way that I ran this blog.

Over the summer, I have worked extremely hard to get ahead with my blog posts, so much that at this point in time, I am a month ahead of my schedule. The next post I write for this blog will be for November, which is incredible. This means that in the future, if I do experience burnout, or feel overwhelmed, I will be able to take a break from everything, but won't have to worry about abandoning my blog. I will have the safety net of a month to get myself back into order to be able to update my blog once again, which gives me a bit of piece of mind and also makes me feel way more organized than panicking on a Sunday night because I had not finished that weeks blog post which was due tomorrow.

Why do you do it?

This is inevitably the next question that comes along. If you get stressed about it, why bother doing it? Well, there is more to that question than you may think.

I have a huge passion for writing. While I don't necessarily see myself as a writer in the future, I do want to exercise this skill that I have and love. And I believe that it is important to keep on writing, no matter what it is about. I have always wanted to write stories, and if I am just sat around waiting for an idea to come to me one day, I am not excising this skill that I have. So when I eventually do get an idea that I love, I may not know where to start if I hadn't been practicing writing in the meantime.

I also am one of those people that constantly needs to be working on something. Acting is a lot of sitting around, waiting for somebody to hire you, rehearsing for a job and doing that job for a few months then back to sitting around. And rather than watching the clouds go past whilst waiting for work to come along, I would rather be doing something that is semi-useful and productive.

Education

Wow, yes that is 13 year old me. I felt like it was appropriate for me to post here. Sorry for scaring you all.

So I left school in 2015 with 11 GCSE's grades A*-B. In case you are interested, I was given 4 options, one of which had to be a "Technology" subject since that is what my school specialized in; I took GSCE Film Studies, Textiles, Drama and History, as well as the usual GCSE's. I believe I would have had another option had I went to another school, but since it was Catholic Religious Studies was a mandatory subject.

Then there are A-Levels. I have an AS in Media Studies at grade B, and 2 A-Levels in History and Textiles which I ended up with a Grade B. In both of these subjects I have virtually no teacher the entire second year (we pretty much had supply teachers who didn't really give us any guidance and just told us to copy out of a text book, so although I wish I managed to achieve that A in both of these subjects, I am proud to see that I got such a high grade from teaching myself both subjects. I also have a Btec in Performing Arts which I achieved a D*D*D* which I am very proud of! And I also took up the option to work on an EPQ which I have no idea what that qualification will do for me, but I ended up with an A (for anyone interested, my essay was on the History of LGBT+ Rights over the past 100 years (it was from 1916-2016) and I am very proud of it, although it is probably a little outdated by now since so much has happened in the community since then!)

Then there is my Degree. I am currently studying BA (Hons) Musical Theatre, and I am going into my second year, having gained a 2:1 in my first year. I am super excited to get started on the second year of my degree and I am hoping that I can turn that 2:1 into a First!

There you go, that is my education. I have no idea how any of this is relevant to my blog, but it is there incase you are interested and I guess you can learn a little bit more about me.

Career

Another topic that my seem to be a bit random, but may help you understand a bit more about e as a person.

My first experiences in a workplace was working in a restaurant when I was 15. I needed to do something for my work experience at school, so I chose to work at a restaurant that a distant family member owned. I was pretty useless for the entire week, but I gave waitressing a good go. It did give me a little taste for what the real world would be like, I even got a little bit of pay at the end of the week, which was something unexpected, since a lot of people on work experience didn't even get any money for the work they did that week.

My next job opportunity came up when I was 17, working at an entertainment company. I have spoken a little bit about this above, pretty much the job would require going to a birthday party or a christening or any sort of celebration and doing some parties dances, then getting dressed up as a character and spending half an hour getting some photos. I absolutely love this job, and I do  go back and do a couple of shifts for the company when I am back from University.

Next come the fun jobs. I once got a call from a company saying that I could have a job interview, which was a bit weird since  had not heard of this company or applied for a job there. But I was young and needed a job between leaving college and going to university, so I went to the interview and got the job. This was the job from hell. And I will elaborate in a future post, you will just have to wait for it. But basically it was working in the customer service department for a financial firm.

After that, I ened up working for a PPI team, helping people make their claims before the deadline. I was literally in this job for six weeks before I left for university.

And that is pretty much what my career has been like so far. It has certainly been diverse. I am just hoping I never have to go into a job like I had a couple of years ago again but we shall see.

And with that, my About Me post draws to a close. I hope that you enjoyed reading it and that you got to learn a little be more about me as a person and what my intentions are with this blog.
